Bell in her NEW FOREVER HOME!

We are all proud and happy that Bell has now found her forever home! This sweet girl has captured all our hearts here at Lucky Dog and we couldn't be more proud!

She is living the life of luxury with only love, toys and playing coming her way. I think the picture says it all!

As far as her hip, her new family will take over her Physical Therapy needs and says that she is using her leg and it is almost not noticeable that she had the surgery. Her coat is still growing at the surgery site, but other than that, she is as good as gold!

Bell, we are all so happy for you and LOVE these happy happy endings... or should we call them BEGINNINGS!

Bell's Story

Bell is a beautifull and sweet Shepherd mix pup that is about 6 months old right now. She showed up in the shelter with her mother when she was 2-3 months old. The local volunteers fell in love and pulled her out -- but they had no one that wanted to adopt her. So, the called Lucky Dog! When she arrived, Bell turned out to be just as cute and loving as the shelter claimed. But, something was amiss... she seemed to have a lot of pain in her left hip.

Bell went to se Dr Smith at Hayfield Animal Hospital. Unfortunately, the news was not great. Bell has some defects in her hip. The abnormal bone structure showed that Bell might have suffered some trauma as a little puppy, and now, as she is growing, she is feeling more and more pain.

Dr. Smith, after consulting with a few different surgeons, recommnded a femoral head ostectomy. A Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) is a surgical procedure that removes the femoral head and neck from the femur to alleviate pain the dog is having. The dog's body then creates a false joint with scar tissue, which enables them to resume their normal activities.

After surgery, Bell will start physical therapy so that her joint puts down scar tissue properly and she retains the ability to move and use that leg.

Bell needs YOUR help! This surgery is quite expensive. Although Lucky Dog has it scheduled, we need help raising funds to pay for it!
